Northern internal martial arts

Old Internal Qi Gong Exercises

Building upon our previous issue of Singing Spring, where we introduced the term “internal martial arts”.

You’ll hear the word “relax” in our lessons. This isn’t the Western concept of relaxation - lack of muscular control… a better word for this would be diffusion. The Chinese character for “relax” is 鬆 - parts of the character connotate ‘pine tree’ and ‘hair’.

Imagine a tightly bound Christmas tree with the binding just cut open: the trunk and branches stay rigid but the fronds flow and release … exactly such a state as one should be in when engaged in internal work.

Build on strong foundations

Bruce Lee Practicing Biu Jee

Every journey has a beginning and every martial arts practice has core foundational techniques to practice. There are three basic forms in Wing Chun, each of which builds upon the previous form and introduces new techniques and principles. Read on to learn about the third in our spotlight series, Biu Jee. If you have questions, why not use the in-app comment section? Leo and the Wuji team read every comment and will reply with advice if needed.

In Biu Jee, you'll delve into the realm of emergency techniques, teaching you how to regain control in the face of unexpected situations. It's all about unleashing powerful strikes, quick recoveries, and deceptive movements to catch your opponent off guard. Biu Jee empowers you with the ability to turn the tide in even the most challenging encounters.

Through the intricate movements of Biu Jee, you'll develop a deeper understanding of the internal aspects of Wing Chun. You'll explore concepts such as energy projection, redirection, and the efficient use of the body's structure for maximum impact. Biu Jee will sharpen your reflexes, enhance your adaptability, and expand your arsenal of techniques.
